Huevember 2018
I do NaNoWriMo in November, so I don’t have much time to draw. Making these tiny drawings for a month-long color challenge was the perfect creative cooldown after long nights of writing.
Monster Girls
For a while, drawing monster girls was my main form of stress relief from a toxic job situation. The last few monster girls were drawn after I quit and became much happier. Eventually I colored a few of them in. I loved my monster girls.
Folktale Week
I used the Folktale Week challenge as a side project for NaNoWriMo. Working within the world of my novel, I created seven folktales as worldbuilding exercises. These foundational stories enrich my story and drawing on the side helped me decompress from writing yet stay mentally connected to my book.
Cafe Comics, March-October 2018
For a while, I was making small comics about moments and people in the cafe down the street. For the first half of 2018, I was funemployed between tech gigs, so I had lots of free time to spend curled up in the corner armchair teaching myself to draw digitally (you can see they get progressively a little better as the year goes by lol). Times change, staff turns over, and I don’t go as much as I used to… but I often miss these moments.
Inktober 2018: Benedict and Boo
I split Inktober 2018 into several small projects. The last week of October was my attempt at a creepy rhyming comic, using the official prompts.
Inktober 2018: Together Alone
I split Inktober 2018 into several small projects. For the middle two weeks of October, I tried my hand at a short black and white horror comic. It ended up not being very scary, but creating a narrative out of the prompts was a fun challenge and I am proud of the tragic tale that resulted. People were divided about my schoolmistressy handwriting — some found it tough to read, others said it added a lot of personality.
Inktober 2018: Characters
I split Inktober 2018 into several small projects. The first week of October was dedicated to characters from previous years. These characters had been mostly hand drawn in years prior so I wanted to play with drawing them digitally. I didn’t get a chance to explore every relationship — example, the two Frankensteins. Maybe some other year…
